directed to forward herewith, for submission to the Government of India, copy a
letter from the Political Resident in the Persian Gulf, No. 968-248, of the 28th
August last, with enclosure from the Political Agent at Muscat, reporting the
formal recognition of His Highness Syud Toorkee as Ruler of Muscat o£ the
8th ol that month.
2. I am to state that the proceedings of the Political Agent in this matter
have been approved by this Government.

Referring to my letter as per margin, and to its enclosures, concerning the
recognition of His Highness Syud Toorkee as Ruler
of Muscat, I have now the honor to enclose a copy
of a telegram which I forwarded to you on the
14th instant, reporting that the recognition had
taken place in conformity with the instructions of
Government on the 8th instant.
I beg also to enclose copies of two letters which I have received, the one
Major Ross’ letter No. 464, of 10 th H' 0 " 1 the Politioal Ageut at Muscat, and the other
August 1871. from the Senior Naval Officer of Her Majesty’s
Ca August L i8 d 7 d r. r,S letter dated llth Ships present, reporting the circumstances of the
recognition, and forwarding translated purports of
correspondence passed between His Highness Syud Toorkee and the Political
Agent on the occasion.
3. I respectfully trust that the proceedings in this matter may be approved.
-The arrangement made between His Highness Syud Toorkee and
Ebrahim bin Gheis, concerning the Government of
Sohar and its adjacent coast line, is remarked on in
a separate letter submitted by this opportunity.
