In view of your having
signed the Oil Concession for the
State of ^atr in favour of this
Coiupany, I am authorised by the
Company to give you the following
undertakings additional to all
the undertakings set forth in the
Concession*
(1) The Company win drill two
Artesian wells free of
charge at such place as may
be selected by H.E»the
Sheikh*
(2) The Company will warn all
its employees that they
should respect and give
heed to general laws and
religious customs, and
that they should not
display in public forbidden
things such as intoxicating
liquors.
(3) Consequent on the demand
of His Excellency the
Sheikh for the employment
of informed persons in Qatr,
who should represent His
Excellency in exercising
what may be necessary in
regard to his rights in
accordance with this
concession the Company
undertakes to pay the
salaries of such informed
persons whos^ number should
not be more than two
persons only on condition
that these salaries shall
be reasonable and in
keeping with their
positions and duties.
(4) The Company will supply
to His excellency the
Sheikh either in cash or
in kind at the Company^
option annually until oil
is won and saved into
Storage.

The volume contains correspondence and telegrams between the Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. at Bahrain and the Political Resident A senior ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul General) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Residency. at Bushire, the Government of India, the India Office The department of the British Government to which the Government of India reported between 1858 and 1947. The successor to the Court of Directors. in London and Anglo-Persian Oil Company (APOC) representatives in regard to the final negotiations with the Sheikh of Qatar before the signing of the oil concession.

The volume contains:the Qatar oil concession, signed by the Shaikh of Qatar, ‘Abdullāh bin Jāsim Āl Thānī, and APOC on 17 May 1935, in Arabic and English (folios 67-86) 'Sketch map of Qatar Peninsula' (folio 87); agreement 5 June 1935 between the British Government and APOC regarding the Qatar Oil Concession (folios 211-212).

There are some letters in Arabic, to and from the Sheikh of Qatar.

Arrangement

The documents in the volume are mostly arranged in chronological order. There are notes at the end of the volume, (folios 222-226). The file notes are arranged chronologically and refer to documents within the file; they give a brief description of the correspondence with reference numbers in red crayon, which refer back to that correspondence in the volume.

There is also an brief index at the beginning (f. 2) indicating the main topics covered in the volume.

Physical characteristics

The main foliation is written in pencil, circled, and can be found in the top right corner of the recto The front of a sheet of paper or leaf, often abbreviated to 'r'. side of each folio. The numbering commences at the title page with 1, then 2-86; 87 and 87A and it carries on until 229, which is the last number given to the last folio of the volume.A second foliation sequence runs between ff. 3-220; these numbers are also written in pencil, but are not circled, and can be found in the same position as the main sequence.
