In reference "to the Oil—tanks recently erected at
Sitrah by The Bahrain Petroleum Company Ltd., the State Engineer has very
kindly pointed out to me the desirability of ascertaining the dimensions and
volume of these tanks, for guaging purposes, and he urges the importance of
this in view of the changes of temperature locally, and also the necessity
for calibrated and tested charts, for the purpose of ascertaining accurately
the quantities of oil to be exported from Bahrain via the pipe-line into
the Tank-ship.
I understandift that to ascertain this accurately will require
some technical experience in addition to involved mathematical calculations,
and that an error is likely to involve the Government of Bahrain in some loss
of royalty.
Also, in view of the local danger involved in the storing of large
quantities of oil, the State Engineer has kindly suggested the consideration
of Fuel Oil Regulations similar to those obtaining in India.
I have no doubt that the above points have already been taken into
consideration by Yourself; and I would therefore venture to enquire if this
is a suitable moment for any steps to be taken in this connection, please.

The volume includes a copy of the draft lease contract with notes (folios 55-64), newspaper cuttings on oil in Bahrain and House of Commons' questions on Bahrain (folios 204-205). There are letters in Arabic with English translation, to and from the Sheikh.
