Reference your letter No.G/541-10/l-VIII, dated the
24th May 1934.
2, I do not think that any reply is called for to the
Chief Local Representative's letter No.PA-78, dated the 12th
May 1934, We have stated our point of view, the Company have
set forth theirs, and as permission for the installation of the
telephone line has already been accorded, the point is now
largely of academic interest,
3, With reference to paragraph 8 of your letter I should
be glad if you would take a suitable opportunity to explain
verbally to the Chief Local Representative that the emphasis
which has been laid, in conveying the Shaikh's permission in
various matters, on the fact that the Company have no right
under the Prospecting License to such concessions, does not
arise out of any resentment on the part of the British
authorities at the Company's presence in Bahrain, but that it is
due to the fact that, purely as a matter of business, the
Bahrain Government naturally wishes to draw a clear distinction
between what the Company are entitled to as a matter of right,
and what the Bahrain Government concede to them as si matter of

The volume includes a copy of the draft lease contract with notes (folios 55-64), newspaper cuttings on oil in Bahrain and House of Commons' questions on Bahrain (folios 204-205). There are letters in Arabic with English translation, to and from the Sheikh.
