The Qatar Concession remains^ at tho moment of
writing, the property of the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company,
who obtained it early in 1935, and folloT/ed thjs by signing
a Political Agreement with H.M,G. Petroleum Concessions
Ltd. has now formed a subsidiary^, Petroleum Development
(Qauar) Ltd., with the object of taking over the Concession
±rom the AoI.O.C. This proposal ha,s, within the last day

Ltd, expects, on transfer of the Concession, to assume all
the obligations vis-a-vis H e M.G. and the Shaikh, which were
previously incumbent on the A.IcO.C. One of these was tho
drilling of two water-wells on Qatar, and this wo propose to
carry out during the coming Autumn and Winter, Qatar will
bo visited by two of our geologists, Messrs. T.P.Williams on
and D. Glynn Jones, early in November, for the purpose of
siting the wells in consultation with tho Shaikh. These
will be accompanied, or immediately followed, by Mr*0,S.
Dickson, who will be in local charge of tho drilling, and
by Mr, W.St.G.Hombersley, who will supervise the drilling
initially and by subsequent visits. The Company will take
over the house already hired by,.the A.I,0 o C. at Doha, and
will ship from Bahrain the necessary motor vehicles and
drilling and other materials.

The volume includes: Programme of operations in Qatar from November 1936 to May 1937 (folios 110-118) and 'General and brief note on the water drilling operations of Petroleum Concessions Limited in Qatar' (folios 209-212).

There are some letters in Arabic, to and from the Sheikh of Qatar.

Arrangement

The documents in the volume are mostly arranged in chronological order. There are notes at the end of the volume, (folios 215-221). The file notes are arranged chronologically and refer to documents within the file; they give a brief description of the correspondence with reference numbers in red crayon, which refer back to that correspondence in the volume.

There is also an brief index at the beginning (f. 2) indicating the main topics covered in the volume.

Physical characteristics

The main foliation is written in pencil, circled, and can be found in the top right corner of the recto The front of a sheet of paper or leaf, often abbreviated to 'r'. side of each folio. The numbering commences at the title page with 1, then 2-37; 38 and 38A; 39-55; 56 and 56A; 57-198; 199 and 199A; 200 and 200A; 201-217; 218 and 218A and it carries on until 225, which is the last number given to the back cover. There is also a second foliation sequence, incomplete.
