Content

The letter and its enclosures relate to hostilities taking place around Aboothabee [Abu Dhabi], the efforts of representatives from the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. Naval Squadron to locate the perpetrators of the acts of piracy involved, and the deposition of the Shaikh of Abu Dhabi, Sa’id bin Tahnoon, and his subsequent departure from Abu Dhabi to Kenn [Qeshm island]. There are a number of enclosures following Kemball’s letter, as follows:

1. The translated substance of a letter (folios 100-01) from the British Agent at Sharjah Hajee Yacoob [Hajjī Yaqoob] to Kemball, dated 21 June 1855;

2. The translation of a letter (folios 102-03) from Shaikh Saeed [Sa’id] bin Tahnoon of Abu Dhabi, to Kemball, undated but received 24 June 1855;

3. The translation of a letter (folio 104) from Kemball to Shaikh Sa’id bin Tahnoon of Abu Dhabi, dated 12 July 1855;

4. Letter no.2C (folios 105-06) from Kemball to Lieutenant Foulerton, Senior Naval Officer in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. , dated 6 June 1855;

5. A letter (folio 107) from Commodore R. Ethersey, Commanding Officer Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. Squadron, to Kemball, dated 24 June 1855, itself enclosing a letter (folios 108-09), addressed to Ethersey from Lieutenant James , Commanding Officer of the Honourable Company’s brig Tigris , dated 19 June 1855;

6. Letter no.221 of 1855 (folio 110) from Kemball to Ethersey, dated 25 June 1855.
