Council, Calcutta.
I have the honour to forward herewith, on behalf of the Anjuman Zea-ul-Islam,
copies of resolution passed by the Muhammadans at their meeting held on Monday*
the 2nd October 1911, and as resolved by them.
Resolved —That this meeting of the Muhammadans of Bombay, assembled
under the auspices of the Anjuman Zea-ul-Islam this day the 2nd October 1911,
take this opportunity of emphatically protesting against the unprovoked and un
justifiable aggression of Italy against the Government of His Imperial Majesty
the Sultan of Turkey and consider the action of Italy both immoral and brutal in
the sight of God and man, and hereby tender our heartfelt sympathy to His
Imperial Majesty the Sultan of Turkey. Nothing would please the Muhammadan
subjects of His Imperial Majesty the Emperor of India more than That His Imperial
Majesty’s Government will continue to show the usual sympathy and friendship
towards Turkey in her resistance of an unjust invasion.

Mussalmans of Lucknow in meeting assembled strongly condemn unchristiain
aggressive conduct of Italy in provoking inhuman war. Respectfully pray their
most humanitarian Government in Europe to do all it can to check Italy in her
nefarious designs.

The Mussalmans of Muzaffargarh assembled in Juma Masj id sympathize with
Turkey in her troubles. Protest against Italy’s aggression and pray that His
Imperial Majesty King George be pleased to intervene.

Part 3 consists of correspondence relating to representations to the British Government by various Muslim groups and their supporters unhappy about Italian aggression during the Italo-Turkish War 1911-12. Many of the representations consisted of requests for intervention by the British against what was viewed as an attack on Muslim people and lands. Communications from many groups are present, including:
- the Punjab Muslim League [a branch of the All-India Muslim League];
- the directors of Jumna Mosque in Bombay;
- Muslims of Lahore;
- Muslims of Southern India;
- Muslims of London and their sympathisers;
- Muslims of Port Elizabeth, South Africa;
- Muslims of Kimberley, South Africa;
- the Indian Red Crescent Society;
- the London All-India Moslem League.
There is further objection from such groups following Italian expansion of the war to the Dardanelles and Aegean Sea in April 1912.
The correspondence includes the discussion between the Government of India, Foreign Office, and India Office The department of the British Government to which the Government of India reported between 1858 and 1947. The successor to the Court of Directors. over how to respond to the representations.
