from Menvan and | farsakh from the Persian frontier. Owner, Mahmud
Pasha
An Ottoman title used after the names of certain provincial governors, high-ranking officials and military commanders.
Jalf. Cultivation : tobacco and a little wheat and barley. Forty horses. The
fields are watered from a small river.
The place was twice destroyed by nomads and rebuilt. Since 4 or 5 years
a post of 150 soldiers have been stationed here for the maintenance of order —

Part III: Gazetteer of Kurdistan (folios 55-104) arranged alphabetically.
At the back of the volume is a glossary (folios 105-06) including notes on the weights used in Kurdistan.
