DR/iPT LETTER TO MR. GEOFFREY LLOYD.
Many thanks for your letter of 13 December with
its enclosures, including the memorandum on the future
of oil in its relation to the Middle East.
I have had this very interesting memorandum
examined here. As you know, apart from the existing
and potential oilfields in Burma and India, my
Department is concerned with oil developments in
Bahrein and the other Arab States in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. .
We have always appreciated the importance of oil
developments in that area and of co-ordinating policy
as closely as possible with the other Departments
concerned, and will be very glad to be kept in
touch with your Department and with the F.O. and
G.O. whenever discussions on future oil policy in
the Middle East take place.
Would there be any objection to my having copies
of the memorandum sent to the G. of I. and the
Political Resident A senior ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul General) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Residency. in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. for their
confidential information?
