Pr^ft Iristruction a to Mr ,
Sir,
^8 you 8re 'w*re, Hio “sjeety's 3oyernment
h>’ve Voided to accede to the refluent which Hie Majesty
the King of Hejar and Sultan of Nejd made, in the course
of hin discussions with Sir G. Clayton during; the
latter's mission to negotiate settlements of certein
outstanding nuestions concerning Iran and Trana-Jor',an,
fo the effect that j>at the treaty concluded with him
in 191* should be revised. The King of the Hejai was
inforaed in April last that His Majesty’s Government
would be preoarcd to discuss the question of the
revision o^ the treaty with him at an early date.
2. His Majesty's Government heve given careful
consideration to this question. The enclosed draft
of a revised treaty has been prepared, and will indicate
to you the matters with which they consider the treaty
might dcsl.
His Majesty's Government do not wish + ,o hind
you to the precise terms of this dreft, or, *s is
explained below, in certain matters to insist uoon its
provisions to the jeooardy of the whole of the negotia
tions; but seeing that Ibn Ssud has for some months
held himself in readiness for the ooening of the negotia
tions, you m«y think it desirable to olace the draft
either in whole or in part, before him, without any
detailed preliminary conversations, as representing
His Majesty's Government's viewe as to the form w-ich
the new treaty should take.
