(2) To Khuriziarat, on the sea-coast, at the mouth of the Mand
river. General direction S. W. Distance 38 miles. The
road leads over both hill and plain. From native informa

A village in Fars about 13 miles beyond Laveh on the road to Lar
consisting of the ruins of a fort and about 30 mat huts. Supplies very
scanty; water is good and plentiful; good grazing and camping grounds.—
{Butcher, March 1888).
SHUMBIR or SHUMBA—Elev. 412', (Vol. Ill, page 603).
Shumba, consists of about 200 mat huts and a large stone and mortar
building, the residence of the Khan. On the low range of hills, about
*half-a-mile to east of the village, are rivulets of good water, as also three
water-mills, two of which are in working order, and the ruins of a town
and ancient forts. Between this low range and the village, a broad
shallow water-course called “ Darya-i-Marsain,” bed, now dry, about 120
to 150 yards broad, flows to south by west into the river Mand. Between
this water-course and the hills to the east lie large plantations of date trees.
Inhabitants about 500, including 100 men fit for service.
Supplies In proportion to population.
Water ... Plentiful and good.
Fuel ... Plentiful from the brushwood bordering the river
Mand; also from date trees.
Cultivation ... Good ; barley, wheat, and date trees.
Grazing ... Good.
Camping-grounds Good.
AVe.—From Shumba a road branches off to Pasruduk, route not
difficult, but through hills. General direction E. by S. From native

DARWISHA—Elev. 540', (Vol. Ill, page 186).
A village in Fars about 88 miles from Bushahr on the road to Lar, contain
ing about 100 mud and stone or mat houses. Inhabitants about 400.
Supplies ... Barley and wheat, good ; no flocks or herds to be
seen.
Water ... Plentiful, but very brackish.
Fuel ... Brushwood, scarce.

This file consists of additions and corrections to the Gazetteer of Persia. Additions and corrections are organised in alphabetical order. Each addition or correction is accompanied by the source of the information.

The corrections are accompanied by a memorandum from the Quarter Master General in India, Intelligence Branch, to the Honourable George Curzon, MP, Carlton Club, London. The subject of the memorandum is given as 'Additions to Gazetteer of Persia, Volumes II to IV.' A note states that they are 'Forwarded for information in continuation of this office No. 3146.I. dated 24th October 1896 by F. G. Cardew, Captain, for Quarter Master General, India.'

Also included (folio 41) are tables of routes within Persia with hours riding time by horse and costs of carriage. In addition there are a number of tables of data. For example, weather observations (ff 53-63), bazar prices (f 109), imports and exports (ff 119-120). Mostly the additions contain supplementary information on the settlements.

Individuals submitting additions include Butcher and Stotherd, Picot and Preece.
