Volume of incoming copy correspondence to William Bruce, Political Resident A senior ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul General) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Residency. in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. from various correspondents within the East India Company discussing financial, administrative and political matters relating to the running of the residency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, established in the provinces and regions considered part of, or under the influence of, British India. at Bushire. Particular attention throughout the correspondence is given to:

Foliation: The volume has been foliated in the top right hand front corner of each folio that contains writing with a pencil number enclosed in a circle.

There is also an original pagination sequence consisting of an ink number in the top right corner of the recto The front of a sheet of paper or leaf, often abbreviated to 'r'. and the top left corner of the verso The back of a sheet of paper or leaf, often abbreviated to 'v'. of each folio. The pagination numbers are missing on a number of pages owing to the poor condition of some of the correspondence.
