The file concerns payments due to the Shaikh of Bahrain (Salmān bin Ḥamad Āl Khalīfah) under the terms of the Bahrain Civil Air Agreement (also referred to in the file as the Air Navigation Agreement). The papers include correspondence from the British Residency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, established in the provinces and regions considered part of, or under the influence of, British India. , Bahrain (enclosing correspondence from the Foreign Office General Department); schedule of sums payable to the Shaikh of Bahrain under the terms of the agreement, for the year ending 31 December 1950 (detailing annual rent of £500; individual payments of £150 for each additional service over and above the first service operating during 1949, for flying boats and land aeroplanes respectively; and total amount due); and letters from the Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. , Bahrain to the Manager, Eastern Bank Limited, and to the Adviser to the Government of Bahrain (Charles Dalrymple Belgrave), forwarding copies of the preceding schedule, and (in the case of the latter recipient) explaining that the sum involved was paid by means of a credit adjustment to the Bahrain Government account in London.
