The file comprises correspondence between the Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. at Bahrain (Tom Hickinbotham), Political Resident A senior ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul General) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Residency. in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. (Charles Geoffrey Prior), Senior Naval Officer in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. (SNOPG) (Cosmo Moray Graham), the Chief Local Representative of the Bahrain Petroleum Company (BAPCO) (Roger Anthony Kennedy) and the General Manager of the California Arabian Standard Oil Company (CASOC) (Floyd William Ohliger) regarding wireless transmissions between Riyadh and Germany which had been intercepted by the CASOC station at Dhahran [Aẓ-Ẓahrān]. The correspondence includes attempts by the British authorities to ascertain where the transmissions were originating and the possible content of them.

A series of file notes which were maintained as a record of the correspondence in the volume can be found at folios 38-39.

Arrangement

The papers are arranged in approximate chronological order from the front to the rear of the file. Circled serial numbers (red for received correspondence; blue/black for issued correspondence) refer to entries in the notes at the rear of the file.
