This file contains correspondence pertaining to the possible appointment of a Special Service Officer. The papers detail the officer's responsibilities and also provide an overview of the political and administrative context in which the appointment was being sought by the various correspondents including the Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. in Kuwait, the Political Resident A senior ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul General) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Residency. in Bahrain, and various British military and political authorities in Iraq. The papers include descriptions of desirable qualities for an officer in the field, including intelligence gathering skills and language abilities.
