32. The Government of India are defmitely of opinion that the alienation
of the Arab Protectorates would be highly impolitic from the point of view

Gulf into the chaos from which it has been rescued with so much difficulty)
is essential. Here, as in the case of Bahrein, Koweit and Muscat, they
consider that so long as Arab opinion is not alienated by an attempt at
undue Westernisation, our present veiled protectorate suffices not only against
European encroachment, but against the encroachments of the Wahabi State.
That protectorate can, they remark, at need be more explicitly asserted.
