I noticed in a recent Diary that tne Shaikh of
Kuwait had replaced the Baladiya house tax,or part of
it^by an increase of ^ Customs dues. This is
exactly wiiat many people would like to do here,particul
arly t^e wealthy property o«mers who prefer that anyone
siiould shoulder the financial burdens of Bahrain except
themselves. But surely the Shaikh is prohibited by
Treaty from increasing his Customs dues beyond a fixed
amount?
in the Bahrain Ireaty the Shaikh is debarred from
