UNDERTAKING OF POJLEE OF KUWAIT REGARDING THE ARMS
TRAFFIC, 1900.
I agree absolutely to prohibit the importation of arms into Kuwait or
exportation therefrom and to enforce this I have issued a notification and
proclamation to all concerned.
Dated this 24 ; th Muharram 1318 (=24ith May 1900).

NOTIFICATION BY SHAIKH MUBARAK-BIN-SUB AH, CHIEF OF
KUWAIT.
Be it known to all who see this that British and Persian vessels of war
have permission to search vessels carrying their and our flags in Kuwait
territorial w r aters and to confiscate all arms and ammunition in them if these
arms and ammunition are intended for Indian or Persian or Kuwait ports.
Kuwait vessels found in Indian and Persian waters by British and Persian
vessels of w r ar suspected to contain arms and ammunition for Indian, Persian
and Kuwait ports are liable to be searched by the said vessels and all such arms
and ammunition found in them will be confiscated.

NOTIFICATION BY SHAIKH MUBARAK-BIN-SUBAH, SHAIKH OF
KUWAIT.
Be it known to all who see this that whereas it has become known to us that
the traffic in arms in British India and Persia, is prohibited, we have therefore
decided to do all that lies in our power to assist the British and Persian
Governments in putting a stop to this illegal traffic, and we hereby declare that
from the date of this notification the importation of arms and ammunition into
Kuwait and the territory under my control, and the exportation of the same
are absolutely prohibited. All arms and ammunition imported into any part of
Kuwait territory or exported therefrom will in future be seized and confiscated.

Arrangement

There is a list of the serial numbers of the contents toward the front of each volume, on folios 3 and 23.

Physical characteristics

Foliation: the foliation sequence commences at 1 on the front cover of volume one, the first folio after the outer cover. Volume one is numbered 1-20. The sequence then continues into volume two, resuming at 21, the first folio after the inner cover of that volume. Volume two is numbered 21-40. The sequence terminates at 40, the last folio before the back inner and back outer covers. These numbers are written in pencil, are enclosed in a circle, and appear in the top right hand corner of the recto The front of a sheet of paper or leaf, often abbreviated to 'r'. page of each folio. Incomplete printed pagination sequences also occur in both the English and Arabic sections.
