2. I am not afraid of Bahrain being swamped by a Western flood if the Resident
goes there. For reasons which I am giving in a separate report that 1 will send you
shortly, I am of opinion that we should not recede from onr present position in
Bahrain, especially if American oil interests obtain what may, if not properly
controlled, be a strangle-hold on the island.
