The letter is a covering letter, enclosing extracts from paragraphs 36 and 37 from a despatch from the Honourable the Court of Directors The London-based directors of the East India Company who dealt with the daily conduct of the Company's affairs. , dated 3 November 1852. Paragraph 36 states that the Directors regret the state of Lieutenant-Colonel Samuel Hennell's health, depriving the Government of his valuable services. Paragraph 37 states that affairs in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. are 'highly satisfactory', but requests information on what redress has been made from the Sheikh Humud ben Mujdel of Junnah in relation to his recent acts of plunder.
