The letter is forwarding a request for remuneration (not present) from Meerza Ali Ackbar, the company's Persian agent at Shiraz, for his losses in the recent earthquake there (see f 2).
It further explains that the Resident believes that his losses have been somewhat exaggerated, and that it should be possible to rebuild his house at modest expense. The letter provides details a loan the Resident has provided to him to meet his immediate needs, and explains that he has been furnished with a tent to provide him with short term shelter.
