Alexander Hector of Messrs Hector and Company informs the Resident that following the discontinuance of the Government Post between Bagdad [Baghdad] and Damascus, his company has established its own monthly post along this overland route and beyond to Beyrout [Beirut].

Enclosed with the letter is a company circular dated 20 December 1842 (folio 3) listing the postal charges, collection and delivery times and other details of the new service, which his company is also making available to British officers stationed in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. .
