76. The Political Resident A senior ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul General) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Residency. and the Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. shall each
be entitled in Kuwait to act as a Notary Public.
77. The Court shall have jurisdiction from time to time to
make an order requiring a person to whom this Order applies to
contribute in such manner as the Court directs to the support o
his wife, or to the support of his or her child, whether legitimate
or not, being, in the opinion of the Court, under the age ot 1
years. Any such order may be made in a summary way as it the
neglect to provide for the support of such wife or child were an
offence, and any failure to comply with any such order sha e
deemed to be an offence, and shall be punishable with a fine not
exceeding 10 rupees Indian silver coin also widely used in the Persian Gulf. for any one default, and the Court may
direct any penalty imposed for such offence to be applied xor the
support of such wife or child in such manner as the Court thinks
fit)

tions'(to be called King's Regulations) for the following purposes
(that is to say) :— . .
(a) For the peace, order, and good government of persons
to whom this Order applies in relation to matters not
provided for by this Order,
(h) For securing the observance of any Treaty or arrange
ment for the time being in force, relating to any place
within the limits of this Order or of any native or local
law or custom, whether relating to trade, commeice,
revenue, or any other matter,
(c) For applying, amending, modifying or repealing with
respect to Kuwait any Acts or enactments whic
apply or are made applicable, or have been brought
into operation in Kuwait, by or under any of the pro
visions of Article 11 of this Order,
(d) For regulating or preventing the importation or expor
tation in British ships, or by any person to whom this
Order applies, of arms or munitions of war, or any
parts or ingredients thereof, and for giving effect lo
any Treaty relating to the importation or exportation
of the same, , ...
(e) For requiring returns to be made of the nature, quanti a
and value of articles exported from or imported into
Kuwait, by or on account of any person to whom his
Order applies, or in any British ship, and for P re -
scribing the times and manner at or in which, and the
persons by whom, such returns are to be made,
(/) For the governance, visitation, care, and superintendence
of prisons. ,
79 _(1) Any Regulations made under the preceding article
may provide for forfeiture ot any goods, receptacles, or things m
relation to which, or to the contents of which, any breach is com
mitted of such Regulations, orof any Treaty or anj nahve or locaj
law or custom the observance of which is provided for by such
Regulations.

Papers relating to the composition, drafting and publication of The Kuwait Order in Council A regulation issued by the sovereign of the United Kingdom on the advice of the Privy Council. , 1925 (His Majesty's Stationery Office, 1925). The volume includes papers relating to initial objections and subsequent agreement on the part of Sheikh Ahmad al-Jabir as-Subah [Sheikh Ahmad al-Jabir Al Sabah], the ruler of Kuwait, to the exercise by the representative of the British Government of jurisdiction over the subjects and protected persons of all non-Muslim foreign governments in Kuwait, including a letter of agreement from the Sheikh written in Arabic, November - December 1925; Rules of Court relating to fees, October 1926; papers relating to the registration of British subjects in Kuwait, November 1925 - December 1926; and papers relating to the regularisation of the position of American missionaries in Kuwait, so that, if the need arose, they would be entitled to British protection, February - December 1928.

Arrangement

The papers are arranged in approximately chronological order from the front to the rear of the volume.

Physical characteristics

Foliation: the foliation system in use commences on the title page and continues to the last folio that bears any text (seven folios from the end of the volume). The sequence appears written in pencil, enclosed in a circle, in the top right hand recto The front of a sheet of paper or leaf, often abbreviated to 'r'. page of each folio. Foliation anomalies: folio 1 is followed by folios 1A, 1B and 1C. Folio 186 needs to be folded out in order to be read. A second sequence also appears, again written in pencil in the top right hand corner of most of the folios, but not enclosed within a circle. This appears to start at [3] on folio 4 and continues to 287 on folio 254. This sequence marks all pages bearing text.
