of dates are exported from El-Ala and Medina, but no
statistics are available. The goods from these localities
aie small in quantity, but of excellent quality.
Salt is now exported from Aden only; the great bulk

Dried limes, of an average annual value of £5,000
are exported chiefly to Persia, Turkey, and India
Muscat's export of dried fish declined considerably
m 1910 and 1911, owing to the poor catch in the sur-

t ' owmg mamlv to good management by an
Indian firm. No statistics are available for the con
siderable trade in dried fish carried on between the
seaports of the Arabian and Persian Gulfs and the
interior.
There is a very small export of wool from Jedda
f3 S 000 erage 6 in 1908 ' 1909 and 1910 fel1 below
Ambergris is collected and exported at Shughra.
[o) Article of purely African origin. —The only
export m this category is ivory. The value imported
was greatly decreasing before 1914, since Jibuti, the
cliiet place of ongm, was exporting more and more

the United Kingdom, Bombay, and the United States.

The great majority of the imports are received at

This volume contains information on the geography, political history and economic conditions of Arabia and was published by the Historical Section of the Foreign Office in April 1919.

It is divided into four sections: 'Geography Physical and Political'; 'Political History'; 'Political Conditions' and 'Economic Conditions'. There is an Appendix, containing tables regarding trade in Aden, Muscat and Bahrein, 1909-1917.

There is a map 'Sketch Map of the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. and Arabia', compiled by the War Office on June 1914.
