The letter concerns British intentions to use a ship of war — to be stationed to prevent the importation of slaves into Persia — in order to obtain information on fortification work they believe the Persians to be undertaking at Karrack [Khārk, Jazīreh-ye]. It is noted that the Persian's fear an attack on their dominions in the current quarter, evident in the fortification work at Bushire.
It contains a suggestion from the Resident that the ship of war in question uses the cover of filling up its water tanks, as an excuse to visit Karrack. It also explains that the Resident could also acquire the desired information through local channels, as Karrack is located only thirty miles from Bushire; he does not believe that major fortification work could escape his notice.
