The letter concerns the affairs of Bahrein [Bahrain], and the potential disposition of Abbass Pasha An Ottoman title used after the names of certain provincial governors, high-ranking officials and military commanders. , Viceroy of Egypt [Wāli of Egypt and Sudan]. It states that the question as to whether the Pasha An Ottoman title used after the names of certain provincial governors, high-ranking officials and military commanders. can or will control the ambitions of Ameer Fysul [Amīr Fayṣul], the Wahabee Chief [Wahabi], or will endorse his designs on Bahrein will be determined by the course of events. It also notes that Shaikh Mahomed bin Khuleefa [Muḥammed bin Khalīfah Āl Khalīfah], Chief of Bahrain, has abandoned his plans to attack the Al Ali tribe at sea.

Enclosed with the item is a translated extract of a letter from Hajee Jassem, British Agent at Bahrein to the Resident in the Persian Gulf The historical term used to describe the body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. , dated 28 August 1853.

The enclosure reports that Ameer Fysul has proclaimed a friendly disposition towards Bahrain; it notes that the Shaikhs of Bahrein are not convinced.
