The letter is instructing the Resident that in the event that Persia declares war on Turkey, the steamer Akbar — currently at Bushire — should be ordered to immediately return to Bombay. It further conveys the approval of the Bombay Government over the Resident's decision to send the steamer Auckland to Bussorah [Basra], and to delay its return to India until dispatches have been received from Tehran. It also notes that if possible the Akbar should retrieve the antiquities collected by Lieutenant Colonel Rawlinson, the Political Agent A mid-ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Agency. in Turkish Arabia A term used by the British officials to describe the territory roughly corresponding to, but not coextensive with, modern-day Iraq under the control of the Ottoman Empire.
