1 forward herewith a brief report &£ niy impressions of the
general attitude and desiderata of the Sultan in the matter of the
revision of the 1891 Treaty as gathered during the course of the
discussions on the subject which hay e recently taken place.
2. The outstanding feature of the discussions is the very
candidly expressed opinion of the Sultan that at the present moment,
and for some time past, the existence of the 1891 Treaty has con
stituted a burden and an infliction on his State. The Sultan 1 s
ideas on the question summarised up are that the British Indian
objects, who form the most prosperous section of the community and
