About this item

Content

Letter expressing the hope that Lewis Pelly can bring about a satisfactory conclusion to conciliatory talks between the Wahabees [Wahhabis] and Muskat [Muscat] and asking him to use his own discretion to resolve matters regarding the British Subjects injured at Soor [Sur].

The letter goes on to advise against Pelly's suggestion of involving the Turkish as this could cause more problems than benefits.

Enclosed is an extract from a letter from Her British Majesty's Consul at Baghdad to Her British Majesty's Ambassador at Constantinople, 1 January 1862 regarding the potential impact of any change in Turkish attitudes towards the Wahabees.
