Letter reporting the departure for the Bombay Presidency The name given to each of the three divisions of the territory of the East India Company, and later the British Raj, on the Indian subcontinent. of part of Lieutenant-Colonel John Macdonald's escort consisting of a Duffadar A Non-Commissioned Officer in the Indian Cavalry. (commandant) and Sixteen Sewars (horsemen) belonging to the Poonah [Pune] auxilliary horse, on board the Bugla Large trading vessel. Mahmudy.
The letter goes on to discuss a Jemidar and six troopers who had been left behind at Tabriz and had been instructed to travel direct to Bushire but had not arrived, and which Colonel Stannus had discovered had disobeyed their orders and chosen to travel via Bagdad [Baghdad] and Kerbala [Karbalā], but that there exact whereabouts was unknown.
