Letter regarding a 'sudden and unfavourable alteration' in the money market in Bushire which had compelled Colonel Stannus to dispose of the Bills drawn by Lieutenant Colonel Macdonald on the Government of India at a reduced rate and prevented the sale of those drawn on the Bombay Government.
The letter continues by reporting that at that time there was no money in Bushire and that until the next treasure cafilah [ Kafila A train of travellers; a caravan; or any large party of travellers. ] (caravan) arrives Colonel Stannus cannot procure cash for the Residency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, established in the provinces and regions considered part of, or under the influence of, British India. bills or those of the Mission which are still to be disposed of.
The letter concludes by bringing to Colonel Macdonald's attention a merchant at Isfahan who is prepared to exchange bengal bills for cash, should that be helpful; and refers to an enclosed cash account for the Mission's account at the Bushire Treasury, which is no longer enclosed.
