Letter regarding packages which had been detained at the Customs House in Shiraz, and which had now been given to Mirza Alli Ackbar [Mirza Ali Akbar], following an order from the Prince of Shiraz, who in turn had forwarded them on to Isfahan.
The letter continues by noting that these packages were released as a special favour and that going forward everything was likely to be delayed there, so he had held off sending the baggage which had arrived on the Sophia until steps could be taken to ascertain how to send it to Tabrize [Tabriz] without interruption.
Enclosures:
- Extract of a translation of a letter from Mirza Ally Ackbar to Colonel Stannus, 14 January 1827: reporting that the letters had arrived with him and that he had immediately despatached them on to Isfahan and that he had been lead to believe that this would be the only time baggage for the English would be permitted to pass free and that charges would apply in future.
- Translation of a letter from Mohumed Zakee Khan [Muḥammad Zakī Khān], Vizier of Fars, to Colonel Stannus (undated but received at the Residency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, established in the provinces and regions considered part of, or under the influence of, British India. 18 January 1827): regarding a lack of packages through the Customs House at Shiraz that year which had resulted in a decision to start charging the English for their packages in order to prevent making a loss.
