undertalciiig and, maintain at a.XX timea a Chief Ldeal
H«presentatire in Bahrain# 1 suggest therefore that if you
concur with this view the faiXure of the Company to fuIfiX
their undertaking shouXd be brought to their notice, and that
it might be represented to the® that it is most IfaprahaWLe
that a man of Major HeXmes* age and phyeique can possibly
remain in Bahrain continuously for five yearst apart from the
fact that be ha® other interests elseshere and that therefore
it is desirable that some one else should be appointed, who can
carry out the duties of the post. ?he present i 'ields Manager,
an 'American, by name Skinner, is an exceedingly pleasant man
to deal with and if there is any difficuity about finding an
SngXishman to act as Ohief Xocal Representative, X personally
see no objection to akinner being appointed, but I do definite
ly think that the time has arrived at which we should insist
upon the Gompany fulfilling thsir undertaking, though, as 1
have said above, if the Chief Local hepresentatire absents
himself for, ssy, two months in the year in the height of
the summer, I do not think any serious exception need be
taken to it.
I am sending a copy of this letter to India.
