JL the Shaikh stipulates that the force majeure delaying operation
jeans that which occurs in connection with the Company's operations
L Qatr and that nothing else must "be taken into consideration and
Lst not be used by the C.ompany as an argument in this respect. And
the Company shall proceed to effect repairs at the time when any
Lnage, of any nature, takes place; and the period of the said delay,
jtogether with any period reasonably necessary for repairing the
Ijamage will be added to the period fixed in accordance with this
preement.
[ irticle Sixteenth. Should any dispute occur between the Shaikh and
jthe Company in regard to the interpretation of this Agreement or of
any matter arising therefrom or in regard to the engagements
obligatory on either of the parties in accordance therewith, such
iispute shall be referred to two arbitrators if no Agreement can be
arrived at for settling it by any other method, and the Shaikh will
appoint one of them and the other will be appointed by the Company,
kh of the two parties shall appoint his arbitrator within thirty
lays after receiving the demand therefor from the other party. The
tiff arbitrators shall thereupon appoint a third arbitrator; but if
the two arbitrators or any two arbitrators appointed instead of them
|are unable to agree upon the third arbitrator within sixty days from
the demand for arbitration, the two parties agree that, in that case,
the third arbitrator should be appointed by the Political Resident A senior ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul General) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Residency. ;
a nd the Shaikh makes it a condition that he should agree to the
jthird arbitrator.
The award of arbitration shall be consistent with the legal
pinciples familiar to civilized nations.
The decision of the majority of arbitrators shall be final;
IP the place of arbitration shall be Qatr.
On giving any award, the arbitrators shall fix a sufficient
time within which the party against whom the award is given, should
Car ry out the said award. And that party shall be considered at
Nt only when he fails to comply with the award before the expiry

The successor to the Court of Directors. in London and Anglo-Persian Oil Company (APOC) representatives in regard to the negotiations with the Sheikh of Qatar, ‘Abdullāh bin Jāsim Āl Thānī, for the oil concession.

The volume contains numerous draft agreements on the Qatar oil concession and also a 'Sketch map of Qatar Peninsula' (folio 22).

There are some letters in Arabic, to and from the Sheikh of Qatar.

Arrangement

The documents in the volume are mostly arranged in chronological order. There are notes at the end of the volume, (folios 210-214). The file notes are arranged chronologically and refer to documents within the file; they give a brief description of the correspondence with reference numbers in red crayon, which refer back to that correspondence in the volume.

There is also a brief index at the beginning (f. 1v) indicating the main topics covered in the volume.

Physical characteristics

The main foliation is written in pencil, circled, and can be found in the top right corner of the recto The front of a sheet of paper or leaf, often abbreviated to 'r'. side of each folio. The numbering commences at the title page with 1 and 1A; then 2-21; 22 and 22A; 23-25; 26 is missing or omitted; 27-65; 66 and 66A; 67-127; 128, 128A and 128B and terminates at the last folio with 217. A second incomplete foliation sequence is present between ff. 29-160; these numbers are also written in pencil, but are not circled, and can be found in the same position as the main sequence.
