I am to ask that you will "be good enough
to prepare the required letters for delivery to His
Highness, and am to state, with regard to (ii), that
after scrutiny here no ohjection is seen to the Arabic I
translation of the draft confidential letter of which a
copy was received with your express letter of the 15th

July, No. 390-S. with regard to (i) you are authorised,
in view of the Government of India 1 s telegram of the

22nd December, No. 1906, to give the Sultan the assurance
desired "by him (as mentioned in the enclosure to your
letter to His Highness, No. C/447, dated the 8th July)
regarding the reduction of fees levied hy the Persian
Gulf Lighting and Buoying Committee.
3. I am to request that you will now make the
necessary arrangements for the signature of the Treaty,
and that you inform the Secretary of State Id r telegram
as soon as signature and the required exchange of letters
have taken place, in order that, with the concurrence
of the Government of India, urgent steps may "be
taken for the ratification of the Treaty "by His Majesty
and for the exchange of ratifications with the Sultan
if possible "before the 11th Fehruary*

The volume contains correspondence relating to the signing of a new treaty between Great Britain and the Sultan of Muscat 'to replace the Treaty of Friendship, Commerce and Navigation signed at Muscat on the 19th March, 1891, which terminates on the 11th February, 1939.'
