regularise the exercise over Union Nationals "by His Majesty's
Consul at Muscat of that jurisdiction over all British
subjects, irrespective of whether the Treaty applies to the
territory of their domicile, which is conferred on the Consul
by the terras of the Treaty. The Proclamation did not however
mean that the Union Government had acceded to the Treaty and
no intimation has as yet been received from that Government
of their desire to do so - (this would in any case be effected
under the provisions of Article 20, and not by the extension
of the Treaty to the Union under Article 19). I am therefore
to request that the Sultan may be so informed, and the
letter to him of 22nd July withdrawn.

The volume contains correspondence relating to the signing of a new treaty between Great Britain and the Sultan of Muscat 'to replace the Treaty of Friendship, Commerce and Navigation signed at Muscat on the 19th March, 1891, which terminates on the 11th February, 1939.'
