fon the King demanded that his Highnefs would publickly re

the end that the CoJfachj being terrifi'd by fuch a Defertion,
might be compell'd to fubmit the fooner to the Polifh Prince
without Fighting, and he by that means regain the Poffefllon
of the Ukraine, which is his particular Demeafns, and the Pa
trimony of his Anceftors.
During the Raign of King ( I{al%ieuskie was fent
to demand the Ratification of the Treaty of CoShhin, which
was obferv'd between Poland and ; and fome other
Things. To which the fort made anfwer. That they would
Ratifie the Treaty purely and barely without mentioning the
Coffacks. But M. ^{atT^iemh^e dy'd at before he
could conclude his Negotiation. Whole Imployment of Agent
his Secretary, M. If'ili.oskj by the Order of the King that fuc-
ceeded Caftmir, was appointed to fupply, and receiv'd Infttu-
£tions to reprefent to the 'Port, That feeing the was
the particular Eftate of the Prince who then Raign'd, he had
a double Reafon to claim the Repofleffion of it. To which
the 'Tort rcturn'd for anlwer, That they w T ould not hinder his
