fervice'tis true, at Confianthjople, and hehad feen me frequent
ly Vifit the European Ambaffadors and Minifters, and that I
was honourably receiv'd, and that all the reft of my time I
fpent in Writing and Reading; ib that all he could guefs from
thence, was ottly that I might be fome Perlan that Travell'd

the Turkifh Saddles are very light. Whereupon the Officers
Poys'd it and felt every where ; but not feeling any thing but
Flocks and Hair, they fuffer'd it to pals.
As for my Eight Hunderd Pijlols, I carry d the one half about
me, the other was in a Portmantle lockt with a Padlock with
fome other Trifles that were of no Value 5 but which I knew
well enough, the Turlywould be fingring, had tlicy once but
fix'd their Eyes upon 'em. True it is, that when I parted
from Mingrdia^I had refolv'd to have given that Cloak Bag-
to one of the Seamen, fo foon as we fhould land at
a Neighbouring Port of which I have already fpoken. For
they never meddle With the Seamen's Packs, and very rarely
fearch the Feloukgs themfelves. But the Wind being fair, we
never put in to that Port ; which was the reafon I did not do
as I inrended : for it would have been a piece of Imprudence
to have done it publickly in the where there were fd
many Paflengers.
The Officers of the Cuftom-Honle therefore being inform'd
of what I had, went into the and there finding the
Cloak Bag, demanded whole it was, to which I prelently an-
fwerd, that twas mine, but that there was nothing in it that
pay'd Cuftom. However, the Cuftomer commanded me to
open it: to which I reply'd. That I would willingly do it at
his Hotiie, but not a (hoar before lb many People. There
