The letter contains two related documents:
- Proclamation by Felix Jones, done on 9 December 1856 aboard of the Frigate Assaye, to the Governor of the Town and District of Bushire, informing him that the city has been seized and that the has time until the following day to surrender.
- Proclamation of British occupation of the Town and District of Bushire, by Felix Jones, Political Resident A senior ranking political representative (equivalent to a Consul General) from the diplomatic corps of the Government of India or one of its subordinate provincial governments, in charge of a Political Residency. at the Bushire Residency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, established in the provinces and regions considered part of, or under the influence of, British India. on 11 December 1856, the conditions of the occupation are given hereby, listing rights and duties for the inhabitants.
