Kemball writes that it has come to his attention that British Banians (Banyans, or merchants) operating on the Arab coast, are being charged taxes at a considerably higher rate in comparison to merchants of other denominations, including Hindus. Kemball requests accurate information from Hamerton on the validity of claims, and information on the right to exemption of such taxes, such as those enjoyed by the Muslim population.
