Content

The letter is acknowledging the receipt of the commands of the Bombay Government dated 14 September 1812. It notes that the tables of provisions supplied for the Resident's guidance do not include any provision for firewood for the sepoy Term used in English to refer to an Indian infantryman. Carries some derogatory connotations as sometimes used as a means of othering and emphasising race, colour, origins, or rank. factory An East India Company trading post. guard; it is the Resident's opinion that firewood should be provided.
