standing, in case only the preliminaries of peace may
have yet been settled, in which event my propositions
may meet consideration, for they have been framed with
great care, and in a just spirit.
I forward to-day, also, copy of my despatch to the
Commander-in-Chief at Bombay, reporting the very
satisfactory proceedings of the flotilla reconnoissance,
which, in my letter dated 30th ultimo, I informed you
I had despatched to Ahwaz. My letters to the chairs,
and my official despatch, enter so fully into the subject,
that I need not trouble you by repeating the advantages
I expected would accrue, and the measures I purposed
carrying out, since all has now been changed by this
sudden and unexpected conclusion of peace—very grati
fying, though it be, if we have secured all the advan
tages by treaty which we are now in a position to
demand.
I remain, &c.,
J. O utram, Lieutenant-General.
To the Earl of Clarendon.
M y L ord, Mohumra, bth April, 1857-
I have the honour to report to your Lordship that
an expedition despatched under my orders on the 29th
ultimo, to reconnoitre the Persian army which had
retreated so precipitately after the capture of Mohurara,
returned to this place yesterday.
2nd. The details of this military movement are
amply recorded in the annexed copy of a despatch, with
its accompaniments, addressed to the Commander -in-
Chief of the Bombay army, and the political proceed
ings of the undertaking are similarly contained in the
annexed report to my address from Captain Kemball.
