The letter is a covering letter, enclosing an extract of paragraph 14 from despatch no.8 of 1856 from the Court of Directors The London-based directors of the East India Company who dealt with the daily conduct of the Company's affairs. , dated 20 February 1856. The extract states that the Resident (Captain Arnold Burrowes Kemball) did right to discourage the Shaikh of Bahrain’s intentions to settle a rival to the Shaikh of Aboothabee [Abu Dhabi] at Biddah [Doha].
