Genre/Subject Matter:

View at Aden of Lady Mary Curzon being carried to the launch from the Residency An office of the East India Company and, later, of the British Raj, established in the provinces and regions considered part of, or under the influence of, British India. in a type of sedan chair. Four servants carry the chair aloft across two poles at the centre of the image. A parasol, lined with black material and covered in white covers her head. Only the pale skirts and feather-topped hat of the Viceroy’s wife are visible.

In the background, along the top of a ridge and at left and right in the middle-ground, various structures are visible, probably warehouses and barracks.

Condition:

The image is buckled and foxed along with the card it is mounted upon. Black and rippling staining along the upper and lower edges probably originate in the printing process. Light surface dirt throughout.
