and stood unrivalled in sincere attachment to
the interests of the two exalted States of England }
and Iran, and was alike eminent in the qualities (
of benevolence and sound reflection. The Turkish {
ambassador having passed a few days in Tabreez, ]
departed to Teheran, the seat of empire; where he ^
visited the Heaven-guarded threshold of the climate- t
conquering sovereign. On being honoured with t
the distinction of kissing the royal carpet, he pre- }
sented regal presents with amicable Letters, and j
became honoured by his majesty's manifold inqui- ^
ries : and having listened with profound attention to j
the kind words and heart-captivating expressions of s
his majesty's gem-dropping tongue, which strength- ^
ened and increased the bond of friendship between a
both States, he appended those precious jewels to 1
the ear of his understanding. The ambassador a

always favoured by the king's munificence, until he t
obtained permission to take leave. He was then a
directed to reside for some time near the Prince r
