About this record
- Content
Letter following on from report numbers three to seven already submitted by Lewis Pelly and providing further information on the surviving Persian Troops from their defeat to the Turcomans at Merv.
The information regarding the Persian Troops, and also the present condition of the Persian Frontier are given in a memorandum enclosed with the letter, this is most likely one of the two memorandum numbered as 8 and described at folios 21-24 and 25-26.
The letter goes on to report on Pelly's intentions of attempting to obtain information on the whereabouts of Prince Hurya Mirza and his followers, and also of the French Photographer that had accompanied the Persian troops; and also notes that the gifts intended for Sultan Ahmed Khan will be unable to reach Herat without an escort as the roads have become unsafe.
A postscript to the letter relates to reliable information received on the Prince's whereabouts, and that he and his followers were on the road alongside the desert between Herat and Puydeh, further reports also stated that many of his followers were in a state of distress and required assistance.
