Mr. AJkew was with us, and confirmed the account of the conful's carry
ing his complaint to Florence, and of his having particularly mentioned the
taking out of the ; birds which came from Cyprus in our veflel for the ufe
of the governor, at the end of 20- days.—An opera is to be performed
this night.
The following lines are cut on one of the window-fliutters of our room,
which I here inlert not for the goodnels of the poetry, but becaufe they
fenfibly ftruck- me, as exadly correfponding with my own melancholy^
fituation.
