Covering letter with the following enclosures:

1) A letter (f 229) from Colonel Justin Sheil, Her Majesty's Minister Plenipotentiary and Envoy Extraordinary A diplomatic representative who ranks below an ambassador. The term can be shortened to 'envoy'. at the Court of Persia, to Lt-Col Samuel Hennell, dated 3 January 1852, discussing a report of seventy slaves landed at Mohemera [Khorramshahr] by a Hindu crew. Sheil doubts the authenticity of the report, requesting that enquiries be made to the Agent at Bassorah [Basra] on the issue;

2) Letter no. 81 of 1852 (f 230) from Kemball to Sheil, dated 6 April 1852, reporting the Basra Agent's response to enquiries regarding the importation of seventy slaves at Mohumrah [Khorramshahr];

3) Letter (f 231) from John Taylor, Acting Agent at Basra, to Hennell, dated 1 March 1852. Taylor reports that his intelligence suggests the rumours of seventy slaves being landed at Khorramshahr by Hindus are unfounded.
