Covering letter enclosing a copy of letter no.29 of 1851 (ff 300-01) sent to Malet by Major Atkins Hamerton, Her Majesty's Consul and the Honourable Company's Agent in the dominions of His Highness the Imam of Muscat, dated 24 December 1851. In his letter, Atkins reports on the settlement of financial claims made by Bombay merchants upon the Imam of Muscat, resulting from the detention of goods by the Customs Master at Bandar Abbas [Bandar-e ʻAbbās]. Atkins continues that he has been fully occupied over the preceding two months, 'adjusting claims and outstanding debts' due to British subjects, all of which have now been satisfactorily concluded. Also included with the covering letter to Hennell is letter no.496 (f 299) of 1852 from Malet to Hamerton, dated 2 February 1852, confirming receipt of Hamerton's original letter (ff 301-01).
