The letter is acknowledging the receipt of the Resident's communication (No. 7) dated 2 March 1854, and informing him that a copy has been forwarded to the Government of India. It notes that pending a reply from that body he should follow the guidance contained within a letter from Arthur Malet, Chief Secretary to the Bombay Government, dated 19 July 1848.
